PURPOSE OF THIS NOTICE AND REQUEST: The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) seeks information on industry, academia, government and NASA interest in conducting technology demonstration experiments on the exterior of International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Materials International Space Station Experiment-X (MISSE-X). NASA is developing a new external platform for space environmental effects testing aboard the ISS. The new platform is a follow-on to the successful MISSE project. The new robotically serviceable platform is known as MISSE-X. The initial deployment of MISSE-X is scheduled for 2016. More information on MISSE-X can be found at This MISSE-X Capabilities Request for Information (RFI) is seeking information with regard to the types of experiment accommodations needed by potential users interested in flying experiments on the MISSE-X platform in 2016 and beyond. The information collected will assist NASA in finalizing the design and capabilities of MISSE-X. A capabilities survey form with a list of questions on the user needs is included as an attachment to this RFI. Interested users should complete one form for each experiment. It is acceptable for users to submit multiple survey responses, one for each specific experiment type. If you cannot fill out all the information at this time, please provide as much as you can and just leave the other areas blank as partial information will still be very beneficial. RFI RESPONSE DATE: The surveys are requested by January 11, 2013. Information received after this date will only be considered if deemed in the Governments best interest. All survey responses should be sent to the email address identified below. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: No solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation. The purpose of this RFI is to obtain information related to potential experiments to be flown on the MISSE-X facility as addressed above. Additional information, if forthcoming, will be synopsized in the NASA Acquisition Internet Service (NAIS) and FedBizOps. It is the responsibility of potential users to monitor NAIS for the release of any additional information or synopsis. This RFI is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for any information solicited. Since this is a RFI, no evaluation letters and/or results will be issued to the respondents. Questions should be emailed to with the respective Point of Contact in the email subject line. The Points of Contact are as follows: questions of a general nature should be directed to Stuart Cooke, MISSE-X Project Manager, questions related to R&D for technology demonstration experiments should be directed to Sheila Thibeault, MISSE-X PI, and Kim de Groh, MISSE-X Co-PI.
