The Department of Energy (DOE) intends to award a sole source contract to United States Enrichment Corp (USEC Inc.) for the purchase of forty or more centrifuges, model AC100, for use in the research, development and demonstration (RD&D) of an American-origin uranium enrichment process. DOE will acquire these centrifuge machines in exchange for DOE's accepting title to, and eventual disposal responsibility for, a certain quantity of depleted uranium tails (DUF6).

USEC Inc. is uniquely qualified to provide these centrifuges because it designed, used, and refined the centrifuges as part of its American Centrifuge Project.

In accordance with 41 U.S.C. ? 3304(a)(1), as implemented by Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) section 6.302-1, other than full and open competition is authorized when there is only one responsible source and no other supplies and services will satisfy agency requirements.

This is a notice of intent and no solicitation is available for this requirement.

Interested parties may submit a capability statement by May 29, 2012 at 2:00 pm local prevailing time (Washington, D.C.) via e-mail to matthew.parker@hq.doe.gov. The written response must include a detailed discussion demonstrating the ability to provide the required centrifuges.

Questions regarding this notice are to be submitted via email to matthew.parker@hq.doe.gov by May 29, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. local prevailing time (Washington, D.C.). Questions received after this date and time will not be addressed.
