NASA has decided to postpone the release of the NASA Enterprise Data Center RFP.With leadership changes and new OMB requirements regarding Cloud Computing, Greening IT,Virtualization, and Federal Data Center consolidation guidance, NASA reexamined the NEDCacquisition strategy and concluded it did not fully address future NASA enterpriserequirements. Based on commercial best practices and other Federal data centerconsolidation lessons learned, NASA intends to create a data center consolidation plan toincorporate all data centers, systems and applications. This data center plan willinclude a data center architecture and full enterprise assessment, which will allow NASAto design an infrastructure strategy to address all business requirements while takingadvantage of opportunities to reduce energy costs and utilize innovations like cloudcomputing. This plan will allow for optimal NASA data center consolidation and makeappropriate decisions about utilization of data center facilities, modernizing existingNASA facilities or outsourcing. The NASA data center strategy and consolidation planwill significantly change and is expected to be completed later this fall. Interestedparties are encouraged to begin monitoring the NASA Acquisition Internet Site( ) and FEDBIZOPPS( in the fall of this year for future NASA data center businessopportunities.
