This is a Request for Information (RFI) and not a solicitation. The United States Air Force (USAF) would like to investigate the feasibility of using an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) for 2-18GHz wideband element level digital phased array beamformer capable of supporting 8 simultaneous users on both receive and transmit. The current implementation takes the 16x64 radiating elements and passively combines each column to form a channelized system which is then digitized using commercial off the shelf (COTS) data converters and field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). The FPGAs provide the system with channel to channel calibration, phase coherency and generation of pulse descriptor words (PDWs). The digital processing backend dissipates ~800W and requires a rack mount chassis to house the units. The data converters have ten effective number of bits (ENOB) at a data rate of 3GS/s.
