Special Notice
Added: Mar 17, 2010 9:18 pm
This special notice announces a Hawaii Renewable Energy and BioEnergy Industry Forum, co-hosted by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Department of the Navy (DoN). It will be held on April 6 and 7, 2010 at the Marine Corp Base Hawaii Officer's Club, Lanai Ballroom. Earlier this year, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to support President Obama's initiative to reduce energy consumption derived from fossil fuels and increase energy production from renewable energy sources. The purpose of the Hawaii Renewable Energy and BioEnergy Industry Forum is to formally announce the MOU partnership between the USDA and the DoN and to present information about the initiatives that are occurring in Hawaii at a public information event. Hawaii has been selected as the location for the initial collaboration between USDA and the Navy because Hawaii's energy costs are among the highest in the nation and imported oil supplies 90 percent of the State's energy. Also, a viable agricultural sector can enhance Hawaii's energy security, and energy projects can help rural economies.

The agenda for April 6 is attached. The agenda for April 7 is being finalized. It is anticipated that the following areas will be covered: biofuel generation, renewable energy technologies, electric vehicles and battery energy storage.

To register for the event, please fill in the attached registration form and submit via e-mail to or via fax to (808)471-5881 no later than 4:00 p.m. (HST) March 26, 2010.

Due to the size of the facility, companies will be allowed to register up to three (3) people. However, if additional space is available after March 26, 2010, companies will be allowed more than three (3) people based on the order the registrations are received. Therefore, please submit all interested participants by the deadline and the first three (3) names on the lists will be registered until it is determined that additional space is available. Access to MCBH requires that all participants must pre-register in order to attend the industry forum. Only registered participants will be provided with further instructions on how to gain access onto MCBH via email.

Those individuals needing special accommodations, please contact the USDA Farm Service Agency at (808)441-2704, ext 148.
