This Demonstration program is to be conducted under ONR’s Directed Energy Demonstration Program in the research area of High Energy Lasers (HEL). The MLD program is intended to assemble, integrate and demonstrate significantly innovative and mature subsystem technologies needed for a future laser weapons systems, suitable to operate in the marine environment, and defeat small boat threats via counter-material defeat, and other targets of interest in a ship self defense mission role. The anticipated minimum threshold and

demonstratable counter-material damage effect, which can include structural failures of small boat structures, is to deter and/or inhibit the effectiveness of an attack against a large naval combatant in a maritime environment. Please see the attached RFP.
